Research use policy.
What research use only means, who may buy, and how we enforce it.
Research use only
All products supplied by Derby City Labs are intended for laboratory research use only. They are not drugs, foods, cosmetics or medical devices, and are not intended for human or veterinary use, consumption, diagnosis, treatment, cure or the prevention of any disease. These products have not been evaluated by the Food and Drug Administration. Any handling of these materials is the sole responsibility of the purchasing researcher or institution.
What research use only means
Every Derby City Labs material is supplied solely for in vitro laboratory research, analytical work and education, carried out by qualified persons. Research use never includes use in or on a person or an animal, consumption, or any diagnostic, clinical, cosmetic or veterinary purpose. Materials are not sold as drugs, dietary supplements, foods, cosmetics, medical devices or veterinary products, and have not been approved, cleared or evaluated by the Food and Drug Administration or any other authority for any such use.
Who may buy
Only qualified researchers aged 21 or over, and people buying for a research laboratory, academic institution or business that buys for research use. We do not sell to, or open accounts for, any clinic, medical or wellness practice, med spa, pharmacy, compounding facility, telehealth service or practitioner.
The confirmation we ask for, and why we keep it
Before you buy, you confirm that you are 21 or over, that you are a qualified researcher or buying for one, and that you understand the materials are for laboratory research only. That confirmation is an electronic signature. We record it with its date and time and keep it with your order for seven years, and our checkout system re-checks it on our server before any order is accepted. We may ask for further evidence of eligibility at any time.
What you may not do
- Use any material in or on a person or an animal, or allow anyone else to.
- Supply, resell or give any material to anyone for use in or on a person or an animal, or to any clinic, practice, pharmacy, compounding facility or practitioner.
- Repackage, relabel or divide any material, or remove or obscure its label, lot number or research-use statement.
- Describe or promote any material as suitable for use in people or animals.
- Misrepresent your age, qualifications or purpose, or order through someone else to avoid this policy.
What we do not do
- We do not give advice on preparing, using or applying any material.
- We do not supply water, consumables, or any preparation or delivery equipment, and we do not source them on request.
- We do not describe what any material does, or make any claim about its effect on a person or an animal.
- We do not supply any material for use in people or animals, whatever the buyer says.
No employee, contractor, distributor, wholesale customer or other person is authorized to say otherwise on our behalf. Any statement suggesting a material may be used in people or animals is unauthorized and does not represent Derby City Labs.
What we do publish
For every material that can be ordered, an independent laboratory report: a lot verification, which tests the exact lot we supply, or a reference report, which tests the manufacturer's batch our supplier attests as the source of that lot, each with the details to check it with the laboratory directly. Also the storage condition on the label and, with first orders, a safety data sheet. Reference chemistry (CAS number, formula, molecular weight, sequence) is published on each product page. Some materials are listed under a catalog code; the code is a catalog convention only, and full identification is on the product page.
Safe handling, storage and disposal
Materials are laboratory chemicals whose properties may not be fully characterized. Handle them only with appropriate training, in a suitable laboratory, with appropriate personal protective equipment and engineering controls, following the safety data sheet and your institution's chemical hygiene plan. Store each material at the condition on its label, out of reach of unauthorized persons. Dispose of unused material, containers and waste as federal, state, local and institutional rules require. Report any incident to your institution's safety officer.
Your responsibilities
You are responsible for complying with every law, regulation, license condition and institutional rule that applies to your purchase, possession, use and disposal of the materials, and for deciding whether a material is suitable for your research.
How we enforce this policy
If we believe an order is intended for use in people or animals, that a buyer is not eligible, or that this policy has been broken, we will cancel open orders, refuse future orders, close any account, and may report the matter to the appropriate authorities and share our records with them. Our Terms set out the consequences in full, including your obligation to indemnify us.
Wholesale customers
Wholesale customers must apply this policy to every onward sale: resupply only sealed, labeled materials, only to purchasers verified as eligible, keep records for three years and provide them on request. See Wholesale and our Terms.
